By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, March 4 - Playing brilliant tennis 3rd seed Indian Sasi Kumar Mukund clinched the singles title in the ITF Mens Futures Tennis Tournament.

In the gruelling three-setter final at the All Assam Tennis Association (AATA) Complex, Chachal, here today, Sasi earned a convincing 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 victory against 4th seed German Sami Reinwein. Sasi started on a bright note and claimed the first set quite comfortably. But the sturdy Gemman made a great comeback with big serves and powerpacked volleys. The Indian made several unforced errors in the second set and was virtually tamed by Sami.

However, Sasi kept his cool in the final set and with successful returns, accurate drop shots and a couple of aces he took over the reign from the hot tempered opponent and won the set and title.

After the match the Tamil Nadu boy credited the opponent for his performance. I thought it will be an easy match for me but Reinwein put up a spirited show and forced me to work hard, said Sami. It was my best performance in India and I am really happy with todays victory. I made some silly mistakes in the final set along with double faults. I wanted to finish quickly and that might be the reason that I made some unforced errors, he added.

Reinwein said, he was happy with his performance and got adequate experience in this championship. He will play in Bhillai and Bangalore next and hoped to carry the good things from here.

In the closing function Guwahati East MLA Siddhartha Bhattacharya was present as the chief guest. AATA president Raktim Saikia gave details about the tournament in his speech. AATA secretary Ankush Dutta conducted the closing function.
