GUWAHATI, Jan 11 Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma today called upon political parties in the North East not to play politics over the India-Bangladesh land swap deal and said the bilateral pact in this regard is beneficial for the States in this region.

Speaking during the concluding ceremony of the 1st Assam International Agri-Horti Show 2014 at the College of Veterinary Science playground here, Sangma said the bilateral pact signed between the Prime Ministers of the two countries for exchange of the enclaves will help to define and demarcate the international borders between the neighbours.

He said ratification of the pact will not only provide security, but also bring economic benefit to the NE States by facilitating better trade and commerce with Bangladesh.

The ratification of the pact should not remain in cold storage just because of politics Ratification of the agreement is must for benefit of the North East Until we settle the international border with Bangladesh, how can we settle the issue of illegal immigration into the region, Sangma argued.
