SHILLONG, Dec 3 The security of Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has been raised to Z-Plus category, while his wife will be given a Z-category security.
Governor RS Mooshahary, Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh, Congress chief DD Lapang, C&RD Minister Saleng Sangma and Parliamentary Secretary Abdus Saleh have also been given Z category security, a senior Political department official said today.
Militants had twice targetted C&RD Minister Sangma.
Congress working president and former Deputy CM Deborah Marak, who was attacked by militants in her constituency last month, was placed under Y-category along with Leader of Opposition Conrad K Sangma and 21 other legislators.
Seventeen other MLAs have been given X-category security cover together with Chief Secretary WMS Pariat.
Meanwhile, DGP Kulbir Kishan said he was touring the five militant-hit Garo Hills districts this week to see if re-calibration of strategy was required for peaceful Assembly elections due next year.
Two militant groups, the GNLA and ANVC-B, were active in the area, compelling the State Government to assess the need to deploy additional forces during the elections. PTI
