NEW DELHI, June 28 � Accompanied by four chief ministers, former Lok Sabha Speaker PA Sangma filed his nomination papers for the Presidential election today.
UPA nominee Pranab Mukherjee also filed the poll nomination today.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, BJP president Nitin Gadkari and party leaders LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley were among others were present at the Rajya Sabha secretariat for the filing of the nomination.
AGP Rajya Sabha MP Kumar Deepak Das and State BJP Lok Sabha MP, Ramen Deka, were also present. Kumar Deepak Das signed the nomination papers as proposer on behalf of AGP.
An elated Sangma told this newspaper that he is going to start his campaign from Tura on July 2 where an all-religion prayer meeting has been organised. �From Tura, I will go to Guwahati to continue my campaign,� he said
�Today is a victory of tribal unity, that a tribal is filing his nomination for the post of President,� Sangma told reporters ahead of submitting his papers to the Rajya Sabha secretary general.
�I will file my nomination today as a candidate sponsored by the Tribal Forum of India, nominated by the Chief Ministers of Odisha and Tamil Nadu and backed by BJP and other NDA allies,� he said.
