IMPHAL, Jan 19 � Political parties in Manipur have promised to enact a legislation to effectively counter and control the menace of economic blockade on highways in the blockade-prone State.
The Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP), a regional party, assured to enact Manipur Highway Protection Act (MHPA) if they are voted to power in the January 28 Assembly polls even as the recently formed five-party non-Congress alliance Peoples� Democratic Front (PDF) and Communist Party of India (CPI) promised a Highway Protection Force (HPF).
Kh Debabarta, working president of MSCP said while releasing his party�s 11-point manifesto here yesterday that his party will be enacting MHPA to effectively counter and control the menace of economic blockade on the highways. MSCP, which failed to produce any legislator in the last polls, is contesting in 34 of the 60-seat Assembly.
Last year, the State witnessed a four-month-long economic blockade by two organizations, causing immence hardship to comon people.
The ruling Congress has failed to include the issue of blockade in its manifesto.
