By Sobhapati Samom

IMPHAL, April 25 Manipur Peoples Party (MPP) has joined hands with the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) to protect and preserve the boundaries of their native States.

Both the MPP and IPFT, members of North East Regional Political parties Front(NERPF), believe that their respective States need to be ruled by indigenous people of the region in order to address their grievances.

This was jointly announced by the presidents of MPP N Sovakiran and IPFT NC Debbarma at a press conference in Imphal on Saturday.

After all, we have a long historical relationship with Manipuris since centuries, said IPFT supremo Debbarma who airdashed here along with the party general secretary A Debbarma on the invitation of MPP, ahead of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections slated for May 3.

IPFT president said, the contest for TTAADC would be a neck and neck fight with the ruling CPI. The IPFT which has been demanding a separate State will come to power in this election, he felt. Recently, a team of MPP has visited the hill areas of Tripura in connection with an election campaign.

MPP Advisor and former Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur Dr Leishangthem Chandramani said that Tripura and Manipur have similar problems.

MPP President N Sovakiran appealed for incorporation of nationalism as priority in governing a State instead of profit-based so-called development in the NE States of Assam, Manipur and Tripura. Ahoms in Assam, Manipuris in Manipur and Tripuris in Tripura are suffering a lot in their own land after the so-called development activities were introduced in the region, he claimed.
