MP for foolproof security before repatriation

AGARTALA, Aug 1 - Amidst confusion over repatriation of Reang refugees to their homeland � Mizoram, Member of Parliament Jitendra Chowdhury has sought multi-dimensional political and social initiatives to solve the long pending issue. Chowdhury, who represents East Tripura Lok Sabha constituency has raised the Bru Refugee issue in Lok Sabha during �zero hour� highlighting the problem of Brus living in six relief camps in Tripura.

An entire generation has been denied of basic needs � water, healthcare and education, which are essential for human development, he said. �There must be foolproof security, guarantee for land and acceptable rehabilitation package for over 35,000 internally displaced Bru people before pushing the repatriation process�, he told the Parliament.

Giving details on the background of the refugee issue, Chowdhury said there had been persistent efforts to ensure return of Bru refugees to Mizoram but it could not yield desired goal.
