Move to privatise Cachar Paper Mill opposed

HAILAKANDI, July 14 - Karimganj MP Radheshyam Biswas and MLA of Algapur Nijam Uddin Choudhury have strongly protested the Centre�s move to privatise the Cachar Paper Mill of Hindustan Paper Corporation situated at Panchgram of Hailakandi district.

Both the elected representatives recently held meetings with the members of Cachar Paper Project Workers & Employees Union (Independent) and decided to raise their voice against the privatisation bid with the State and Central governments. It can be mentioned here that the Central government in a notification dated July 5 last decided to privatise various loss making industries including Cachar Paper Mill of Hailakandi.

The meeting expressed serious concern over the future of thousands of employees after privatisation. It condemned the attitude of the government towards the employees and casual labourers of the only industry of Barak Valley. The meeting admitted that the mill is at present facing serious crisis due to the closure of production. Those who attended the meeting included Dilip Suklavaidya, Manabendra Chakraborty, Abhijit Rahman Mazumdar, Kamal Uddin, Mrinal Kanti Dey, among others.
