TEZPUR, April 16 - At a time when the Supreme Court has directed roadside wine shops and bar owners to shift their establishments beyond 500 metres from national and State highways, the reported move by an unscrupulous businessman to open a wine shop at Mission Chariali has created a sharp reaction among the people here.

It needs mention here that the businessman of the locality Ranjan Bora is doing everything to set up a new wine shop Angel Wine Shop. It must be mentioned here that there are many important institutions including Ketekeswar Devaloy, Mission Hospital and Mission High School, Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Girls College, Mission Chariali Girls High School etc.

However, the people of the Ketekibari and Mission Chariali area have been vocal against this move as for them due to the mushrooming of wine shops in and around the town, many talented youths are seen going astray. The locals have also informed the matter to the local MLA, Brindaban Goswami seeking his intervention in this regard. Goswami on receiving the information has directed the Deputy Commissioner, Manoj Kumar Deka to take steps against the move and take action against the owner of the wine shop Ranjan Bora.

On the other hand, the president of the Tezpur AASU, Nitul Bora reacting to the issue said that the decision of the Supreme Court is a welcome step and it should be obeyed by one and all in the interest of a conducive society.
