Move to launch white revolution in State

GUWAHATI, Feb 13 � Governor JB Patnaik has taken the initiative for launching of a white revolution in the State and as per the programme, the scheme will be launched in Tinsukia district and it will be spread to other districts of the state in a phased manner.

Official sources said that the Bharat Integrated Social Welfare Agency (BISWA) was given the responsibility of preparing a project for launching a white revolution in Assam and the organization today submitted a pilot project for Tinsukia district in a meeting held at the Raj Bhawan with the Governor on the chair. The meeting was also attended by the office bearers of BISWA, Veterinary Minister, Commissioner Upper Assam Division and other senior officials.

Sources said that the Governor himself would visit Sadiya in a month�s time to personally monitor the progress of implementation of the scheme.

According to a report, the per capita availability of milk in Assam is much lower than the national average. During the year 2006-07, the per capita availability of milk in Assam was only 70 grams per day in comparison to national average of 246 grams per day. Moreover, Dairy Development can provide sustainable livelihood to a large number of people.
