Motorbike rally to Kathmandu

GUWAHATI, Feb 13 � Newly-floated non-government organisation Akshayam that endeavours to create a stable platform among the underprivileged children to help them join the mainstream and also inculcate in them a strong passion for sports and culture, will be organising a motorbike rally from the city to Kathmandu, which will be flagged off on February 17.

Billed �Ride for Youth � A mission to promote sports among the underprivileged�, the rally will cover a distance of 2,240 km to and from in a span of eight days. The rally team comprising ten coaches and players of different sports will make a number of pit stops during which they will interact and share their special skills with underprivileged youths in those locations. The major focus points will be Goalpara, Bongaigaon and Kokrajhar in Assam and Siliguri in West Bengal on the Indian side and Kakarbhitta, Kathmandu and Bhaktapur in Nepal.

The team will also distribute sports equipment and books among the underprivileged children during the trip which has Frontier TV as the television partner and 93.5 Red FM as the radio partner. The team members are Roop Kumar Buragohain (badminton), Bedanta Rajkhowa (martial arts), Jitumoni Deka (basketball), Wahid Basir Ahmed (cricket), Jitumoni Kalita (cricket), Dhruba Haloi (table tennis), Miraj Ahmed (swimming), Saurav Das (football), Biswajit Bharadwaj (chess) and Ghana Jyoti Das (gymnastics).
