More resposibility now: Naba Kr Sarania

KOKRAJHAR, May 24 - The sitting MP, from 5-Kokrajhar HPC, Naba Kr Sarania retained his seat defeating his nearest rival BPF candidate Pramila Rani Brahma by over 37,000 votes and UPPL candidate UG Brahma.

Talking to mediapersons soon after the official declaration of the result this morning following the receipt of certificate from Returning officer for 5-Kokrajhar seat here Naba Kr Sarania expressed his immense pleasure and gratitude to the people of Kokrajhar for electing him for the second consecutive term, which he termed as bestowing further responsibility for future development, peace and progress, mutual coexistence and brotherhood, apart from the wellbeing of all sections of people living in this area.

He also assured the people that anyone having any genuine problem can approach him in order to resolve the crisis. At the same time, he also revealed that things which remained pending in the last five years will be expedited to fulfil the hopes and aspirations of the people.

He further indicated that by 2020 he and allied groups and associations like Sanmilito Janogosti Ekya Mancho among others will try to resolve the issues related to land rights of the people of the BTAD area and also grievances of the people who are faced with injustice and deprivation on several fronts.

He also spoke about his plan to participate in the BTC elections next year for better representation of the people in governance for resolving the local issues and challenges. He categorically denied in reply to a question from media that he is at any stage intending to divide the Bodo and non-Bodos for any sort of political mileage or personal gains, but he is taking up the ongoing disparity as a challenge to bring about a change for equal status and equal protection of life and property of the people of this region.

On the other hand, senior BPF leader and Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary accepting the mandate of people said that it is time for BPF to work harder taking all sections of the people into confidence and also to address the pending issues. At the same time, he also said that the country will be more secure and will prosper under the leadership of Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister for the second consecutive term and hoped that the Centre will focus much more on bringing development to this area along with rest of the nation.

Naba Kr Sarania got 4,84,560 votes as against his nearest BPF candidate Pramila Rani Brahma who got 4,46,774 votes and the UPPL candidate UG Brahma who secured 3,12,435 votes. It may be mentioned here that the independent candidate Naba Kr. Sarania in the last Lok Sabha election won by a record margin of more than six lakh votes in 2014. However, this time as there were nine candidates in the fray, there was division of votes and his victory margin was considerably less.
