More buried GNLA ammo recovered in Garo Hills

TURA, April 11 - East Garo Hills police along with villagers today made further recoveries of hidden GNLA stash of ammunition.

It has been common knowledge that the Sohan D Shira- led Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) had kept weapons and ammunition hidden in several locations across the district. Following the encounter killing and subsequent drive by the police to find the arms, several recoveries have been made along with several arrests.

Today�s recovery comes in the wake of the recovery of a good number of guns after the arrest of five people.

�A massive search operation was launched in the former strongholds of GNLA after the recovery of a stash of weapons and ammunition a few days ago. The search continued over three days and was spread over Dorenkigre, Chachatgre, Bawegre and Nengmandalgre. Villagers, who were well aware of the terrain also helped in the search,� said SP, Ringrang TG Momin.

The search has led to the recovery of a huge amount of ammunition from Dorenkigre, Chachatgre and Nengmandalgre villages.

The recoveries today included 2,036 rounds of 7.62 ammunition, 50 rounds of 9 mm, 320 rounds of HMG ammunition, 10 remote circuits of IEDs, two remote controls, 16 charger clips and four ammunition boxes.
