Moran emerge champion

MANGALDAI, Dec 30 � Moran Masters Athletic Association has emerged overall champion with 41 gold medals in the 20th All Assam Masters Athletic Championship which ended here today. Dibrugarh with 34 gold and host Mangaldai with 27 gold medals captured the second and third positions respectively.

The Moran team, maintaining their successful run, clinched as much as 9 gold medals on the concluding day to ensure the top position in the championship. Female masters of Moran bagged a total of 25 gold while their male counterparts bagged the remaining 16 gold.

Earlier, Mousid Udiya of Tinsukia emerged victorious in the 21-km open marathon with a timing of 1 hrs 9 mins 2 seconds followed by Biswajit Deka of Morigaon and Paresh Nath of Mangaldai in the male category.

In the female category, Mina Bordoloi with a timing of 1hrs 28mins, 47 seconds emerged champion followed by Bhanu Deka of Kamrup (Metro) and Purnima Bordoloi of Morigaon.

In the prize distribution ceremony, Hem Kanta Bora, Dr Nagendra Nath Sarma, noted athlete Bhogeswar Barua and few other distinguished guests were present.
