Moghai Ojah Award to Jatin Goswami

GUWAHATI, Oct 15 - The Moghai Ojah Srijan Award, instituted by the Srijanasom Trust, was formally conferred on Nrityacharya Jatin Goswami at a function at the GMCH auditorium here last evening.

Artistes Bhola Hazarika and Baneswar Kalita � both exponents of the Sattriya culture � were also honoured with the lifelong achievement award on the occasion.

Governor PB Acharya, who was the chief guest and presented the awards, spoke on the rich cultural traditions and heritage of the Northeast and expressed the hope that the legacy would be carried forward by the young generation.

The distinguished guests on the occasion were Education Minister Sarat Barkataki and Pradyut Bardoloi, Adviser to the Chief Minister, the late Moghai Ojah�s son Naren Barua, and others. The Gauhati University Vice Chancellor Dr Mridul Hazarika released a souvenir published on the occasion.

Earlier, Asom Sattra Mahasabha president JN Pradhani inaugurated the function. Another highlight of the evening was the presentation of various Sattriya items by acclaimed artistes Ramkrishna Talukdar, Rumi Talukdar, Mridusmita Das and the young students of the Nartan Kala Niketan of Guwahati.
