GUWAHATI, Jan 19 - The APCC today claimed that the histrionics of Prime Minister Narendra Modi draws crowds of people to his meetings. People come to the rallies addressed by Modi to see for themselves his �histrionics and circus�, said APCC vice president Ripun Bora in a statement here this evening. Modi is only shedding crocodile tears for the development of Assam and the other north-eastern states.
Bora claimed that the crowds of people who gather at the meetings of the Prime Minister do not come to the rallies because of their love for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This has been proved by the results of the Bihar Assembly elections. Lakhs of people gathered at the election rallies addressed by Narendra Modi in Bihar. But they did not cast their votes in favour of the BJP.
Commenting on the assertion made by Modi today in his addresses at Kokrajhar and in Guwahati that Dr Manmohan Singh and Tarun Gogoi should tell the people of Assam as to what they have done for the development of the State, Bora said that the Central government led by Dr Manmohan Singh did not deprive the State of its special state category or its 90:10 ratio Central funding pattern.
Work on the modernisation of the Bongaigaon Thermal Power Plant, extension of the BG rail line to Barak Valley, a bridge over the Brahmaputra to connect Dhola with Sadiya, the second bridge over the Brahmaputra at Saraighat and preliminary works on three bridges over the Brahmaputra started during the rule of Dr Manmohan Singh-led Central government, Bora said.
Works on the NH-52, the four-lane road connecting Kaliabor with Itanagar via Bhomoraguri, and also on the BG lines from Rangiya to Murkangcheleng and from Naharlagun to Itanagar started when Dr Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister of the country.
Again, the per capita income in Assam rose to Rs 60,000 from Rs 13,000 during the past about 15-year rule by the State government led by Tarun Gogoi as the Chief Minister, Bora said.
On the contrary, the present government at the Centre has shelved the schemes meant for allocation of funds for the development of the backward districts of the State, has not released the amounts allocated to the State against flood relief operations, suspended the North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy (NEIIPP) announced during the rule of the UPA government at the Centre and stopped payment of the oil royalty due to Assam, Bora said.
