Modi tsunami fails to affect Tripura

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, May 16 The Modi tsunami which swept the country had no impact in Marxist-ruled Tripura where the Left Front won both the LS seats.

The Left Front won both West Tripura and East Tripura Lok Sabha constituencies with huge margins of over 4.50 lakh votes in each constituency, according to the result declared by the Election Commission.

Sankar Prasad Dutta, who contested in the prestigious West Tripura Lok Sabha seat on Left ticket, secured 6, 67,086 votes while Congress candidate Prof Arunoday Saha managed to secure only 1, 67,226 votes. The winning margin of the Left nominee stands at 4.99 lakh setting a new record in the States electoral history.

All India Trinamool Congress candidate Ratan Chakraborty got 1,15,618 votes while BJP candidate Sudhindra Dasgupta managed to bag only 54,406 votes.

Left nominee for the East Tripura Lok Sabha constituency Jitendra Chowdhury registered an empathic victory by securing 5,94,006 votes while its arch rival Congresss Sachitra Debbarma got only 1,33,458 votes.

All India Trinamool Congress candidate Bhriguram Reang got 74,065 votes and BJP nominee Parikshit Debbarma finished with only 58,388 votes. The results showed the electoral battle was one-sided with the opposition Congress and TMC failing to put up a decent fight.

Meanwhile, the BJP is in a jubilant mood in the Marxist ruled State with its supporters on Friday staging a victory rally to mark Narendra Modis victory.

BJP State unit president Sudhindra Dasgupta greeted Narendra Modi and party president Rajnath Singh for the partys historic victory in the general elections. In a press release, he hoped Tripura would be benefitted under the Narendra Modi regime.
