IMPHAL, April 6 - Preparations are on for the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Manipur tomorrow.

Modi will address a BJP rally in Imphals Hapta Kangjeibung. This will be the second visit of the Prime Minister to the State, after his earlier visit on January 4.

Police have stepped up security, particularly in Imphal, ahead of Modis visit, in view of the 17-hour shutdown from 1 am to 6 pm tomorrow called by the Coordinating Committee (CorCom) of outlawed armed groups.

Appealing to the people to observe the shutdown during Modis visit, CorCom in a statement to the media alleged that ever since Manipur was annexed into the Indian Union on October 15, 1949, the people have been subjected to various oppressive policies.

Manipur has two Lok Sabha seats. BJP has fielded H Shokhopao Mate alias Benjamin Mate from Outer Manipur (ST) and Dr RK Ranjan from Inner Manipur. Election for Outer Manipur will be held on April 11 and Inner Manipur on April 18. Altogether, 19 candidates 8 in Outer Manipur and 11 in Inner Manipur are contesting the polls.
