'Modi recreating Partition-like situation'

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 31 - Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid today alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is trying to recreate a Partition-like situation in the country for petty political gains.

Talking to mediapersons here this afternoon, Khurshid said that by resorting to such acts, Modi is bringing disrepute to the chair of the Prime Minister, not only in India, but across the globe.

He said, He should speak like a leader of the country and not just a BJP leader. Some parties in India are trying to create a different kind of situation in the country, which cannot be encouraged.

He alleged that the State has been given a step-motherly treatment by the NDA Government in the last couple of years by depriving it from various welfare schemes.

They are only good at making empty promises, he added.

In view of the forthcoming polls, the former External Affairs Minister said that Assam is one of the States from where we (the entire country) derive inspiration for successfully restoring normalcy after undergoing a torrid period of unrest.

I am confident that the State will never allow such unrest to creep in again. The voters here will not encourage religious polarisation and give a befitting reply to those trying to divide voters on religious lines, he opined, adding, The Congress Government has succeeded in ensuring overall development in the State during its tenure.

There were individual cases of passing aberration which had turned out to be an expensive mistake for the voters, he added.
