GUWAHATI, Aug 30 - �Modern scientific temperament must be adopted to capture the world market with the products produced traditionally in the rural areas of Assam. Online e-commerce platforms such as Amazon can be utilised for selling local products in the global market.�
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said this while opening a workshop on �Going Global through E-Commerce Marketplace for B2C Product Manufacturers, Exporters, Retailers and Online Sellers� organised by FICCI CMSME and FICCI Women�s Wing North East Chapter at the Assam Administrative Staff College here today.
Stating that the youths of the State must utilise science and technology for achieving their dreams, the Chief Minister said India is blessed with a young population whereas countries like Japan and China are faced with the problem of an ageing population.
Power and capability of youth must be tapped for achieving rapid development of the country and if the youths realise their true potential by honing their skills and capabilities, then only India can become one of the best countries in the world, he said. Sonowal also said that Amazon can extend a helping hand in achieving this target.
Asserting that the perception about the north-eastern region has been changing positively, Sonowal said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi�s push with the Act East Policy has made rapid development of the region possible. �We have a lot of resources and potentials and must use these to capture the global market while at the same time maintaining top quality of our products� he said. Saying that Prime Minister Modi has called for developing the North East as an organic hub for harnessing the full potential of this region, Sonowal highlighted the Prime Minister�s statement about NE being the �Astalaxmi� and new engine of growth for the country.
Industry and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Additional Chief Secretary of Information Technology Department VS Bhaskar, Commissioner and Secretary of Industry Department Ashutosh Agnihotri, Amazon Global Selling (India) Head N Venkatesh, National Head E-Commerce FICCI FLO Joyshree Das Verma and Chairperson FICCI FLO NE Sarita Sikaria also spoke on the occasion.
