Mobile shops in Majuli soon

JORHAT, July 22 - The Majuli district administration has decided to launch mobile shop service across the island through which essential commodities will be sold at rates fixed by the Government.

A district administration source said that the service will be made available under the State Government�s Amar Dukan (on wheels) scheme to be implemented by the Food and Civil Supplies and ConsumerAffairs Department.

The source said that the district administration will select six persons to implement the scheme at six different areas to be marked beforehand by the district administration.

As per the scheme, a selected person for running the service will have to purchase an e-rickshaw to sell 23 commodities to be listed by the State Government and at a pre-fixed price. The beneficiary will have to purchase the e-rickshaw with his own money, the source stated.

Moreover, the vehicle will have to be registered in his (beneficiary�s) name and he will not be able to carry out any other business activity without obtaining prior permission from the Majuli Deputy Commissioner.

The State Government will offer Rs 50,000 as an one-time aid to a selected beneficiary to start the service and offer guidance to get bank loan if the beneficiary so desires.

The source said that the district administration has sought applications from unemployed youths for the scheme to be submitted at the DC�s office by July 31 next.

The applicants will have to be HSLC examination passed and 18 years of age. Applicants will have to submit an annual income certificate from the concerned revenue circle officer or the mouzadar, the source said.

The source further stated that as per the scheme, a beneficiary will not be able to transfer his permission to another person to carry out the service.

The district administration will hold interview to select the beneficiaries for the scheme at the Majuli DC�s office on August 1 from 11am and applicants will have to bear their own travel expenses, the source added.
