IMPHAL, Nov 29 - A mob lynched a murder suspect at Tentha Jayenti Wapal under Thoubal Police Station in Thoubal district in the wee hours of Saturday.
Gambhini Devi, 45, a married woman and a resident of Thambal Chingya Cheirao Chingkhong under Kakching Police Station in Thoubal district, was reportedly stabbed to death by the suspect identified as Oinam Amujao, 24, a resident of Wabagai Lamyang Ching in Thoubal on November 26 last. Amujao was absconding since the incident until he was found hiding in his house by locals at about 2 am. He was dragged out by locals who turned into a mob which lynched him at the spot.
Police recovered the body at about 7.30 am from the spot and sent it to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal for postmortem.
House of the suspect was also destroyed by angry locals yesterday. They also tried to torch it, but the police foiled the attempt. Meanwhile, the body of Gambhini has been claimed by the family.
