AIZAWL, Oct 26 - Opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) today wrote to State Governor Lt.Gen (retd) Nirbhay Sharma requesting him to intervene into gross misappropriation of funds under Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC) in southern Mizoram and later filed an FIR with State Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

MNF alleged that Rs 2,936.19 lakh sanctioned under the Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSSs) was grossly embezzled by the Congress-ruled MADC.

Discrepancies between RTI documents and the proceedings of MADC session have thrown light on the suspicious embezzlement of funds, the MNF said in its letter to the Governor.

The Congress ruled MADC also allegedly embezzled Rs 764 lakh sanctioned by NITI Aayog. Some works which have already been completed under the 13th Finance Commission and SPA have been recorded in the papers as fresh works under NITI Aayog, the MNF said.

The MNF accused the MADC of submitting fictitious utilisation certificates without incurring actual expenditures in several CSSs, including Border Area Development Fund. The MNF said it would closely watch how ACB is acting on its FIR against the alleged fund embezzlement.
