MM Choudhury�s statue unveiled

GUWAHATI, April 12 � Assam Governor JB Patnaik today inaugurated the statue of former Assam Chief Minister Mahendra Mohan Choudhury at Geeta Mandir premises commemorating latter's 103th birth anniversary.

The programme was organised by the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury 103rd Birth Anniversary Celebration Committee.

Attending the function, Patnaik recalled Choudhury's contribution in the political, social and cultural spheres of Assam, which still remains a source of inspiration for the new generation.

The Assam Governor further said that apart from his political acumen, Choudhury's involvement in the religious activities too is appreciable.

�Choudhury, who also served as the Governor of Punjab, played a pivotal role in setting up Dr Barooah Cancer Hospital, Arya Vidyapeeth College, BBK College, Nagaon, Gandhi Mandap and Geeta Samaj (1990), of which he was the founder president,� Patnaik said, adding that Choudhury also contributed immensely in propagating the preaching and ideals of Srimanta Sankardev .

Today's meeting was also attended by senior Congress leader Dr Bhumidhar Barman and MLA Robin Bordoloi.

Radha Bora, president, Mahendra Mohan Choudhury 103rd Birth Anniversary Celebration Committee, was also present on the occasion.
