Mizoram reports 12 new cases, complete lockdown in Aizawl

AIZAWL, Aug 17 - Mizoram today reported 12 new cases of COVID-19, taking the state�s tally to 789.

From 80 swab samples tested at Zoram Medical College lab, seven cases � six from Aizawl district and one from Lawngtlai district � were confirmed positive, an official source said.

From 396 Rapid Antigen Tests, five were confirmed to be positive, including three truck drivers.

All the six new persons from Aizawl district who tested positive contracted the virus from a positive person, the source added. These included two kids � aged 11 and 17 and a 55-year-old � from Chaltlang Lily Veng in Aizawl, a ten-year-old boy and a 57-year-old woman from Sawleng village and a 36-year-old woman from Darlawn village.

With an increase in the cases of local transmission, the Mizoram government on Sunday imposed a four-day complete lockdown in the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) area to prevent community spread and allow smooth contact tracing exercise.

The complete lockdown came into effect from Sunday midnight and will be in force till 4:30 am of Friday.

�Massive tracing of primary and secondary contacts will be launched and massive testing of frontline workers will be conducted during the lockdown period,� an official statement said, adding that random sampling tests will be conducted on the public.

Complete lockdown is also enforced in Darlawn, Sawleng and other villages where local transmission has been reported.
