Mizoram, Nagaland celebrate Easter Sunday

By Correspondent

AIZAWL, April 21 - Aizawl residents woke up Sunday morning to a beautiful tune of the all-time inspirational Christian hymn Up from the grave he arose beautifully played by brass band parties of Salvation Army. The music reverberated throughout the hills and valley to mark the rise of Jesus from the grave more than 2,000 years ago.

Members of other Christian denominations like the Presbyterian Church and Baptist Church of Mizoram organised Sunrise Service to celebrate the Easter Sunday.

Joining the world community, the Christian-dominated Mizoram observed the Easter Sunday with full religious fervour.

Believers of Christian faith observed the solemn day with mass, prayers, singing the gospel hymns, presentation of choirs and biblical sermons.

Large number of faithfuls congregated in their respective Churches in the morning to welcome the resurrection of Jesus Christ. All shops and business establishments were shuttered down and the roads wore a deserted look with people attending church services.

After the church service, Easter eggs and tea were served to the church members.

PTI adds: Easter celebrations in Nagaland began with pomp and gaiety on Sunday with people taking part in candlelight processions and prayer services.

In the capital Kohima, thousands of devotees attended the sunrise service at the historic World War-II Cemetery to mark the resurrection of Christ from the dead.

Delivering his Easter message, the general secretary of Asia Pacific Baptist Federation, Rev Vesekhoyi Tetseo, said, Jesus Christ is the hope for those who acknowledge their shortcomings and repent.

He called upon the people to seek Gods mercy to attain eternal salvation.

Extending his greetings, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said it was time to rejoice and be thankful for the gift of life, love and joy.

The greatest act of love on #GoodFriday is followed by the greatest act of power on #EasterSunday - #Resurrection. The miracle of #Easter brings hope and it is a time to rejoice and be thankful for the gift of life, love and joy. Have a blessed Easter Sunday. #EasterWeekend2019, he tweeted.

Nagaland Governor PB Acharya encouraged people to work for peace, harmony and brotherhood.

The resurrection of Christ signifies that truth triumphs over evil and love is always stronger than hatred, the Governor said.
