Mizoram IAS officer gets 3 yrs RI in graft case

AIZAWL, May 27 - In a significant judgement, the special court under Prevention of Corruption Act in Aizawl today sentenced a IAS officer to three years rigorous imprisonment and fined him Rs 5 lakh.

Rodney Lalrinawma Ralte (IAS), was found guilty of swindling Rs 14.03 lakh.

Ralte, when he was a District Collector in Mamit in western Mizoram, is found to have siphoned off public money meant for relocation of Andermalik village for expansion of Dampa Tiger Reserve during 2010-11. The official was granted bail for a period of one month, and he would appeal in higher court.

Ralte, who was promoted to IAS from Mizoram Civil Service officer in 2011, pleaded non-guilty by saying that disbursement of funds was the duty of cashier and he did not receive any money from the cashier.

After hearing the witnesses, special judge found the official guilty of dwindling public money amounting to more than Rs 14 lakh. � Correspondent
