AIZAWL, Oct 30 - Mizoram doctors are the best in India when it comes to clubfoot surgery.
Representatives of Cure International India Trust(CIIT), an organisation that works for clubfoot children, informed Chief Minister here recently that Mizoram doctors are the best in India in surgery and treatment of clubfoot.
Currently, 50 clubfoot children in Mizoram are under- going treatment under the joint mission of State Health department and CIIT. CIIT had a meeting with its partner Clubfoot Mizoram here yesterday where they reviewed achievements and chalked out further action plans.
The ten-member CIIT team also met Mizoram Governor Lt Gen Nirbhay Sharma (rtd) informing him of the organisation�s work for correcting clubfoots in Mizoram and India.
Clubfoot is one of the most common birth deformities that affects over 2,00,000 new born children every year in the world.
According to the organisation, every 10 minutes a child is born with clubfoot in India, i.e., over 50,000 children are born with clubfoot deformity every year (1 per 500 birth). Clubfoot is a condition where the foot is twisted inward and can be corrected with serial cast and a special shoe.
