AIZAWL, July 10 - The Zoramthanga Cabinet on Monday upheld the boundary demarcated by the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation 1873 as the true boundary between Mizoram and Assam.
The Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief minister Zoramthanga passed a resolution that said: �The boundary demarcated by the BEFR 1873, which is accepted by the people of Mizoram as the true boundary (between Assam and Mizoram), is the standpoint of the government (on the border issue).�
The Cabinet�s resolution came a few days after the Assam Forest department renovated an abandoned cinema hall near the Assam-Mizoram border and subsequently occupied it.
Sources said the area where the abandoned cinema hall stands is a disputed area where both the neighbouring States agreed to maintain status quo.
Meanwhile, Mizoram�s apex student body, Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), has demanded the State Government to take measures to ensure that the re-occupied forest house is vacated by the Assam Forest department on or before July 12. The student body also warned that it would carry out intense protest to protect the State�s boundary if the State Government fails to take any positive measure.
