Mizoram alliance promises NRC if elected to power

By CORRESPONDENT

AIZAWL, Aug 25 - The Zoram Peoples Movement (ZPM) here has promised to bring in a National Register of Citizens like the one being undertaken in Assam if it is elected to power in the upcoming Assembly elections.

ZPM Chief Ministerial candidate Lalduhoma said that the NRC would be his top priority if the alliance forms the Government at the end of this year.

ZPM is an alliance of two registered regional parties Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP) and Mizoram Peoples Conference (MPC) and newly floated political outfit Zoram Exodus Movement and others.

Lalduhoma, who is currently touring the East Tuipui constituency, also accused the Congress Government of turning a blind eye to the infiltration of Bangladeshi immigrants following the Assam NRC.

He lauded the efforts of Mizorams apex student body, Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), that has been policing the Assam-Mizoram border. The MZP claimed to have pushed back more than 200 suspected Bangladeshi migrants trying to sneak into Mizoram.

As the Congress Government totally neglects the security of the indigenous people of Mizoram, student organisations had to take up the task of guarding the borders. Once the ZPM comes to power, we will implement the NRC in Mizoram, Lalduhoma said.
