Mixed response to Chutia student body bandh in city

GUWAHATI, Dec 9 - The 12-hour Assam bandh called by the All Assam Chutia Students� Union in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill today received mixed response in Guwahati.

Though members and supporters of the student body staged protests in different parts of the city, the overall public life remained normal.

According to police, members of the organisation burned tyres at Fancy Bazar, Bamunimaidam and Basistha Chariali.

At Bamunimaidam an altercation between bandh supporters and a section of drivers also took place.

Meanwhile, at Dispur police detained a number of AJYCP members while they were staging a protest at the entrance to the Janata Bhawan. Later they were released.
