Mismanagement due to govt indifference alleged

By Shambhu Boro

TEZPUR, Jan 12 - The Boro medium schools in Sonitpur district witnessed many ups and downs and a lot of mismanagement due to the indifferent attitude of the government and the Education department towards them in the last academic session in 2019 a conscious section of parents of the Boro medium students in Sonitpur district told this reporter at the advent of the new academic session of 2020.

Alleging severe indifference, parents of hundreds of such children mentioned that their children had to pass the entire academic session 2019 without complete text books and adequate number teachers. Moreover, in the recent annual examinations of the academic session 2019, the students had to contend with a number of erroneous question papers and even their shortage. A high school teacher of Batachipur area who didnt want to be named here alleged that as a result of alleged mismanagement, the students of his school (a Boro medium one) had to sit in their examination following Assamese medium question paper.

It is to be mentioned here that there are altogether 184 Boro medium schools in Sonitpur district which including LP, UP and secondary level schools. Among these 85 LP, 17 UP and 13 secondary schools (high schools) are still in a venture state. Official records reveal that due to the non-appointment of adequate number of teachers, less enrolment in Boro medium schools has been witnessed in the last few years, with the result that some of the above-mentioned schools have been shut down.

Expressing annoyance over the governments role in this regard, the president of the Sonitpur District Boro Sahitya Sabha, Amrit Machi Daimary said that while the government has held several rounds of TET for fulfilling the vacancies in Assamese and other vernacular medium schools, but no such sincerity has been witnessed in the case of Boro medium schools. Moreover, the 69 Education Guarantee Scheme (EGS) centers under Dhekiajuli and Nadwar Education Blocks are yet to be upgraded and a number of venture schools are yet to be provincialised due to the conspiracy of some vested people and the official red-tapism. We feel that it is nothing but governments alleged intention to tactfully shut down the Boro medium schools across the State which can be said to be a gross violation of human rights and the Right to Education Act 2009, Daimary alleged adding that as a result of mismanagement of the authorities concerned in the recent annual examinations, many Boro medium schools had to run their examinations with Assamese medium question papers which psychologically hampered the children.

Vice president of ABSU Ratendra Daimary and one of its secretaries sharing their views on this issue mentioned that there are total of 517 venture LP schools, 149 venture ME Schools and 103 venture High Schools of Boro medium in 11 districts across the State. In Kokrajhar district, there are 128 LP (venture), 23 UP (venture) and 13 High Schools (venture). Among these, a total of 84 LP schools are running with a single teacher while the post of 44 Science teachers, 18 Hindi teacher and 42 Assistant Teachers posts are lying vacant. Likewise in the High and Higher Secondary Sections too, a total of 163 posts of various subjects and Departments are lying vacant in the district.

In Chirang district there are 81 venture level LP schools, 24 ME Schools and 12 High Schools which are yet to be provincialised and 124 posts in LP, ME and High sections are lying vacant. In Baksa district too, there are 57 venture LP schools, 29 venture ME and 12 venture High Schools while 150 posts in LP, 260 posts in ME and 94 posts in High school are lying vacant. In Udalguri district there are 79 venture LP schools, 19 venture ME Schools and 25 venture High Schools. Similarly, a total of 46 venture LP schools, 12 ME schools and five venture High Schools in Biswanath district are yet to be provincialised. In Dhemaji district 39 venture LP schools, 11 venture ME schools and 13 venture High schools have not been provincialised. Moreover, a total of 64 teachers posts are lying vacant in all the three sections of the Education department of the district. In Karbi Anglong district 3 venture LP Schools, 3 ME schools and 6 venture High Schools are yet to be provincialised. Moreover, in Golaghat district 3 venture LP schools, 4 venture ME schools and 2 Venture high schools have not been brought under governments jurisdiction till date. In Goalpara district 7 venture LP Schools, 5 venture ME schools and 4 venture High schools are yet to be provincialised.
