Mising youth fest to be dedicated to Bhupenda

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 11 The Mising community in the State is deeply grateful to the music maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika who shared an intimate relation with the community members and their colourful culture.

As a mark of respect to the popular bard who had made significant contributions to the Mising culture, the Takam Mising Porin Kebang, the Mising Mimag Kebang and the Takam Mising Mimei Kebang have decided to organize the Mising Youth Festival on a regular basis from next year.

It needs to be mentioned here that the Mising Youth Festival was first held in the year 1996 and it was continued as an important event in the Mising community, the festival being hosted after every two years. However due to natural calamities like flood and erosion, the Mising community could not maintain the continuity. In the fourth edition of the youth festival which was also the last one, Dr Bhupen Hazarika was the chief guest and he had enthralled thousands rendering his soulful songs throughout the night.

We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to Bhupenda and so we have decided to hold the youth festival regularly from next year, said Rahul Loing, publicity secretary of youth festival organizing committee. He said that the Mising people love Bhupenda and are inspired by the ideals of the bard they have come together to hold the youth festival.

Bhupenda wanted the young generation to know and love their culture and arts. We have dedicated the forthcoming youth festival, the fifth edition to Bhupenda, Said Loing.

This youth festival will be held in February 2012 at Gogamukh in Dhemaji with a four-day programme.
