Miscreants pelt stones at train carrying CM

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, May 29 - Sarbananda Sonowals maiden train journey as Chief Minister from Guwahati to Dibrugarh proved to be an eventful one. A group of miscreants pelted stones at the Rajdhani Express, in which he was travelling late last evening near Chaparmukh. However, nobody, including Sonowal, was injured in the incident.

The Chief Minister had boarded the Rajdhani Express at the Guwahati Railway Station last evening.

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) officials said the stone-pelting incident happened just as the train was approaching the Chaparmukh station.

The window glasses of four coaches sustained damage due to the incident. However, the Chief Minister was in another coach.

RPF personnel immediately swung into action and six miscreants were nabbed on the spot.

Officials said all of them were in an inebriated condition. They were booked under the Railway Act, handed over to the GRP and sent to jail.

The Chief Minister was not the target. The miscreants were drunk and may even not have been aware that Sonowal was a passenger in the Rajdhani Express, said an official.

The train was halted at Chaparmukh for some time and then continued on its journey to Dibrugarh. Sonowal reached Dibrugarh early this morning.

NFR officials said the stretch between Jamunamukh and Chaparmukh is notorious for such kind of incidents and miscreants frequently target moving trains and resort to stone pelting.
