AIZAWL, March 6 � An eight year-old minor girl was murdered after raping her repeatedly at North Vanlaiphai, about 128 km from here.
Lalchhuanawmi was missing since March 1. After search operation carried out by the police and public, her body was found near the village on March 3 night.
There were several injuries on her head and the body was covered with banana leaves. A post-mortem done on Sunday confirmed that she was raped and murdered. The victim lived with her grandmother after her parents separated.
There had been 168 incidents of crime against women like rape, attempted rape, molestation, women trafficking during the year 2011. Since 2008 to October last year, the Mizoram police had registered 303 rape cases and about 105 suicide cases in 2011 alone.
As per a country-wide survey done in 2010, Mizoram ranks second in child abuse, next only to neighbouring Assam.
