AGARTALA, Jan 4 Calling for a self-introspection on their performance, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Saturday said the decade-old militancy still persists in some areas of the State.

The insurgency has not been uprooted yet despite all out efforts. Militants are still on the operational mode in some interior places of the State, he said while addressing a gathering to mark the Police Day here.

Sarkar said, Police have managed to attain success while in some areas the police establishment also suffered setback in the past year.

The Chief Minister, in his speech, also mentioned the spiralling incidents of crime against women. The cops should tackle the cases related to crime against women with bold hands to reduce the menace. We must ensure women to live here with full honour, he said.

Earlier, the Chief Minister presented the Policeman of the Year-2014 award to Asst Commandant of 12th Bn TSR Bankim Debbarma for his outstanding performance and dedication to duty.

While Sub Inspector Madhabi Debbarma has been awarded with Best Investigator of the year award, Bishranganj police station has been given the best police station award on the occasion of Police Day.
