Militants gun down man

IMPHAL, June 28 - Militants shot dead a man in Noney district suspecting him to be a police informer, a senior police officer said today.

Militants belonging to the Zeliangrong United Front shot dead Lanshinthui Kamei at Gairilong Luangrang village in Noney district yesterday, the officer said.

Family members of Kamei, however, said he was a farmer.

Meanwhile, a leader of a banned militant outfit has been arrested in Manipur during a search operation in Imphal East district, the police said.

The militant belonging to the Kangleipak Communist Party (Poirei Meitei Lup) group was arrested yesterday during a search operation at Pungdongbam and Sekta areas, the police said in a press release.

During interrogation, the militant claimed that he was also a member of militant outfits such as the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) and several other factions of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), the police said.

He also claimed that he had shot dead the proprietor of a restaurant in January 2016. A case has been registered at the Lamlai Police Station for further investigation. � PTI
