MGNREGA outlay slashed in Tripura: CPM

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, July 2 - The CPI (M) alleged that the Narendra Modi-led government has substantially slashed down Tripuras outlay under national flagship programme- MGNREGA.

The allegation came only three-day after Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varmas statement of phenomenal success in the national flagship programme in the state.

According to Dev Barman, the state has generated 56.03 lakh man-days under MGNREGA till June 27, 2019 and the state has set a target of generating three crore man-days.

However, states MGNREGA allocation had started reducing from 2016-17 FY. An amount of Rs 1358.98 crore was allocated for the state during 2015-16 FY while it was reduced to Rs 1016.29 crore in the year 2016-17 and Rs 504.40 crore was earmarked for 2017-18 FY.

A senior party leader said the Modi government has not increased states outlay for MGNREGA even after BJP-IPFT government came to power last year. The Centre has allocated Rs. 442.54 crore for the year 2018-19 but the state has received Rs. 150.14 crore so far. It shows the state is being deprived by the BJP government, he said on Tuesday.

The CPI(M) also sharply criticised the BJP-IPFT government for befooling people as it has failed to keep its promise to increase wage to Rs 340. It had promised to increase MGNREGA wage to Rs 340 during the 2018 Assembly elections, but it has increased to Rs 192 from Rs. 177. It is nothing but a sheer example of cheating the people, he said.
