GUWAHATI, Jan 2 The mercury level has dropped to a considerable extent bringing in the chill of winter for the second time this season in the NE region. Kohima today recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 3 degree Celsius (C) while Shillong recorded the lowest day (maximum) temperature of 12.1 degree Celsius in the region.
The city today recorded a maximum temperature of 16.7 degree Celsius (C) and a minimum temperature of 15.5 degree Celsius against its respective normals of 23 degree C and 11 degree C.
The slump in the overall ambient temperature is felt due to the fall in day temperature caused by an overcast sky, which has prevented solar radiation to reach the earth surface.
However, the present spell of cold is not that severe compared to the previous one during which the city recorded a lowest day temperature of 15.5 degree C and a minimum of 9 degree C was on December 24 last.
