Memorial meet at Gauripur

GAURIPUR, July 7 � The Gauripur branch Sahitya Sabha by organising a memorial meet on July 5 last on the premises of Gauripur Public Library remembered Jatindranath Duara, Dr Surjya Kumar Bhuyan and Tafazzul Ali on their death anniversaries.

After paying of floral tributes, earthen lamps were lit in their sacred memory. The memorial meet was presided over by Satyabrat Chakrabarty, president of the branch. Atul Chandra Ray, secretary of the branch Sahitya Sabha explained the purpose of the meeting.

Dhirendra Nath Adhikary, assistant secretary of the Asam Sahitya Sabha, while delivering his speech, highlighted the contributions of poet Duara, historian Bhuyan and lyricist Ali in the field of Assamese literature. He also appealed to the youths to follow their ideals and reminded them to be careful at the time of crisis of the identity of the Assamese people. Manita Barua, publicity secretary of the Sadou Asam Lekhika Samaroh Samiti, poet Pranab Kumar Barman and a few others participated in the discussion.

The Dhubri branch Sahitya Sabha also paid homage to the three renowned literary figures of Assamese language and history, by organising a memorial meet which was presided over by Giasuddin Ahmed, president of the branch and was attended by a host of members of the branch.
