By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 12 - The Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha, while alleging gross human rights violations in Assam and other states of the North East, has requested the UN to send an observer team to the region to take stock of the injustices meted out to the indigenous people of the region.

The Mahasangha has submitted a memorandum to Ban ki Moon, Secretary General of the UN to take up the matter of human rights violations in the North East and not to give permanent membership to India unless it repeals the draconian Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act.
