Memo to Guv over MSME ordinance

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 7 - Reacting to the recent decision of the State government to allow micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to set up industries in Assam by simply submitting a self-declaration, the Coordination Committee Against Citizenship Amendment Act today said that re-classification of agricultural land, deemed to be converted for industrial purposes, will pave the way for transferring the fertile land of the State to private companies.

The Committee made the allegation in a memorandum submitted to the Governor.

The proposed MSME ordinance will drastically change the land policies in favour of big businesses. The land ownership and land rights will, undoubtedly, be slipping away from the hands of the local people. We have reasons to believe, large areas of land will also be taken over by even the corporate sectors under the garb of MSMEs. The land mafias, in league with corrupt politicians and bureaucracy, will play a crucial role to alienate the people from their land, the Committee said in the memorandum.

The Axom Nagarik Samaj, another public body of the State also slammed the government on the same issue.
