Member of int�l narcotic syndicate nabbed

NEW DELHI, Jan 18 � An alleged member of international narcotic syndicate, Ashiq Illhai, who was wanted for his role in a drug trafficking case lodged here, has been arrested from Imphal, police said.

According to the Special Cell of Delhi Police, 42-year-old Illhai was arrested on Thursday from Imphal in Manipur and he was the main source of supply of contraband heroin smuggled in India from Myanmar.

The police said that Illhai, who is involved in supply of heroin for the last 10 years, was wanted in connection with a case lodged here under the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

It said two mobile phones along with SIM cards which was used by the accused in communicating with his associates for drug trafficking activities was also recovered from him.

�He (Illhai) further disclosed that he along with Nurul Huda and Jalaluddin (both absconding) used to get consignments of smuggled heroin at Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur,� it said.

The police further said that these accused used to send big consignments of heroin to their associates in Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh from where the narcotics was send to various parts of the country, including Delhi.

It also said that these accused, along with their other associates, used to transfer money from their bank accounts to the accounts provided by the drug suppliers based in Manipur.

The police said that Illhai has disclosed during the interrogation that Nurul Huda was the main kingpin of the narcotic syndicate and efforts were on to nab Nurul Huda and Jalaluddin, who are absconding.

The Special Cell also said that Illhai is being brought to Delhi and they have got four days transit remand from a court in Imphal. � PTI
