Meghalaya�s first CM remembered

TURA, Oct 26 - Meghalaya on Tuesday paid rich tributes to its founding Chief Minister late Captain Williamson A Sangma with a commemoration ceremony on his 26th death anniversary. The commemoration was marked by a rastriya salute by personnel of 2nd Meghalaya police battalion at William Point here.

Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) Denang T Sangma led the dignitaries and family members of Captain Sangma in paying rich floral tributes. A minute�s silence was also observed in remembrance of the late leader.

The late CM�s death anniversary has been declared a local holiday in the West Garo Hills district since the past year.

A close aide of Captain Sangma during the Statehood movement and a former executive member of GHADC, Arbinstone M Sangma, said, �He was a leader par excellence. He was committed for the welfare of tribals and took up the challenge to unite all the tribals of North East to urge the Central leadership for creation of separate States.�
