By Correspondent

SHILLONG, Jan 27 A Meghalaya Police officer, who had reportedly detained 32 coal-laden trucks plying illegally, was mysteriously found dead in his quarter, which the police now claims is a suicide case.

PJ Marbaniang, a sub inspector posted at Patharkhmah, Ri-Bhoi district, was found shot on the head at his official quarter on Saturday at about 9 pm. His service weapon, a 9 mm pistol, was found under his belly by his colleagues who rushed to his quarter on hearing the gunshot.

The police officer was rushed from Patharkhmah to Guwahatis GNRC hospital, but was reported brought dead on Sunday morning.

The doctor, who conducted the post-mortem in Nongpoh (Ri-Bhoi district), believes it to be a suicide case. Moreover, nobody saw anyone running away when they heard the gunshot, Superintendent of Police, Ri-Bhoi district CVS Reddy said.
