Meghalaya NCP slams govt over killing of cops

By Raju Das

SHILLONG, June 5 The opposition Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) today said there is no government in Meghalaya, due to which three police personnel in Garo Hills were killed by militants yesterday. There is no government in Meghalaya as the incident proved that there is a complete breakdown of law and order in the State, opposition NCP leader, Conrad K Sangma said.

On Saturday, three police personnel were killed and two others were seriously injured in an ambush by militants in East Garo Hills.

Sangma slammed the Congress-led Meghalaya United Alliance government saying: what is worse is that there is no reaction whatsoever from the Government and both the Chief Minister and the Home Minister are out of station at this crucial juncture.

Chief Minister Mukul Sangma is in Delhi after he was summoned by the Congress party high command last Tuesday for his version on the present internal fight in the party. He is slated to return today.

NCP, earlier, met Governor, RS Mooshahary and demanded Presidents Rule in Meghalaya as the government machinery has failed for several months now. The Governor rejected the demand saying, the current political turmoil was an internal party matter and not a conflict between coalition partners.
