Mega legal aid camp in Kokrajhar on Sunday

KOKRAJHAR, Aug 24 - A mega legal aid services camp will be organised on Sunday at Debargaon Model LP School premises in Kokrajhar, informed R Bhattarcharjee, Secretary of District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) today here.

Addressing mediapersons at the Kokrajhar circuit house today, Bhattacharjee further informed that the Executive Chairman of Assam State Legal Services Authority and Gauhati High Court Judge Justice AK Goswami, Justice AM Buzorbarua, BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary and other officials will attend the camp organised by the Assam State Legal Services Authority in association with District Legal Services Authority, Kokrajhar.

DLSA secretary also said the camp is the fifth of its kind in the State and similar mega camps were organised previously in Dibrugarh, Bongaigaon, Dhemaji and Silchar.

At the same time he also said because of the lack of knowledge most of the grassroot people are deprived of their legal rights and this camp will help them get justice and the benefits of the government facilities. He also said there will be free transportation for Fakiragram, Salakati, Bishmuri and other parts of the district that would help bring the poor and needy to the event.

The press meet was also attended by Gitali Rabha, Deputy Secretary, Assam State Legal Services Authority, KC Boro, District Legal Services Authority, Barpeta among others.

Court building inaugurated: An additional building to facilitate court proceedings in Kokrajhar was inaugurated at the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate here at Kokrajhar.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Justice Achintya Malla Bujorbarua hoped that the new court building constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 3 crore and comprising four court rooms, will improve the judicial functioning of Kokrajhar courts.

He also said that the new building has adequate provisions for the disabled which was a very positive step as also a requirement of the law. He also emphasised on the need for maintaining cleanliness in all courts of the new building and also asked the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kokrajhar to make timely inspections to ensure that the building remains as it is looking today.

Mitali Thakuria, District & Sessions Judge, Kokrajhar, R Bhattacharjee, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Kokrajhar, Rajen Sing, Superintendent of Police, Kokrajhar, BC Barman, ADC, Kokrajhar, Anil Brahma, president, Kokrajhar Bar Association among others also attended the inaugural function along with all judicial officers and Bar members of Kokrajhar.

It may be mentioned here that Justice Achintya Malla Bujarbarua also visited Kokrajhar Bar Association and interacted with the Bar members. NC Saha, secretary of Kokrajhar Bar Association, on behalf of the Bar members, called for constituting a bench of Gauhati High Court in Kokrajhar.
