BADARPUR, Feb 25 � Mega Block will be operated in the first part of October of the current year for six months, in the Lumding-Badarpur hill Section, for starting the Broad Gauge line from Lumding-Badarpur hill Section to Silchar. The Railways is working day and night to complete the construction works as soon as possible. All preparations have already been completed to operate the Mega Block in the hill section. This was informed by the NF Railway Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Niraj Kumar, on Sunday to this correspondent at the Badarpur railway junction, when he wanted to know from the DRM the present position of the ongoing construction works and mega block in the Lumding-Badarpur hill section.
It may be noted here that DRM Niraj Kumar, who came here on Sunday, inspected the Badarpur Railway Station, the Badarpur Railway Junction and ongoing construction works. During his inspection, he was accompanied by high-level Railway officials of various departments along with the Chief Engineer of the Railway Construction department, who also inspected the newly-constructed Badarpur Railway Station Bhavan and the railway yard, near Rupashibari of Badarpur. Kumar also inspected the Badarpur Ghat, the newly-constructed Barak Railway Bridge and Silchar Railway Station.
The DRM also told this correspondent that he has come here to see the BG construction works at Badarpur and the area where the new railway tracks have been set up at Badarpur Railway yard. He also said that during the Mega Block Period, no passenger trains, including the BV, Cachar Express, Tripura Express and the goods trains will be allowed to run in this section. Quoting Railway sources, a spokesman said that it is undeniable that during the mega block period, passengers, railway and non-railway employees and common people will have to put up with many problems. So the NF Railway authority will think about devising a proper solution. Sources also said that if the mega block creates problems for the people, then the Railway authority will try to arrange road communication for them.
Railway sources also informed that the BG construction works in between Lumding-Badarpur hill Section are progressing nicely. Regarding the problems of tunnels No 7 and 8, sources said, at present there is no trouble at all in these two tunnels. All obstacles are being removed gradually. Construction works of all small and big bridges and tunnels is also progressing satisfactorily. In reply to another question, the DRM said that if everything remains alright, then the BG from Lumding-Badarpur hill section to Silchar will begin in 2015. Due to BG works, a large number of shops on both sides of the Badarpur Station Road will be evicted very soon, and in this connection, all sorts of necessary arrangements and preparations have been taken, sources said.
Meanwhile, the members of the NF Railway Mazdoor Union and the Employees Union of Badarpur Branch also met the NF Rly Divisional Railway Manager Niraj Kumar and welcomed him heartily. During his stay at Badarpur, both the unions discussed various burning problems of Badarpur Railway Colonies, Badarpur Railway Hospital, various roads, electricity, drinking water etc. They appealed to him for an early solution to various problems faced by the Badarpur Railway employees. The unions also submitted separate memorandums to the DRM enlisting their problems.
