Meet calls for ethnography of Adivasi tribes

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 11 An emergent meeting of the Adivasi Sahitya Sabha and the All Adivasi Students Association of Assam (AASAA) held here on Sunday insisted on a correct ethnography of all Adivasi tribes in the State.

The intense and elaborate discussion held at Vivekananda Kendra, Uzan Bazaar observed that in view of the present social and political developments it was now essential to prepare a proper ethnography of the Adivasi tribes.

It needs to be mentioned here that the meeting also appointed a seven-member monitoring committee to ensure that the work is completed at the earliest and presented to the government.

On the other hand, the central executive meet of AASAA was also held at the same venue. The meeting expressed dissatisfaction over surrender of land to Bangladesh and said that the government would not hesitate to hand over major parts of India to China and Pakistan.

The meeting resolved to launch a series of agitations from September 22 demanding increment of wages to Rs 200 and rescheduling of working hours for tea garden labourers.
