Medicine shop looted at Jorhat

JORHAT, Aug 10 - Another incident of burglary has been reportedly committed by a thief in a wholesale medicine shop in the town within a gap of three days.

According to the complaint lodged by the owner of Mediplus (medicine wholesaler) at New Balibat locality in the heart of the town, a thief (as per CCTV footage) broke the locks of the shutter of the shop on the wee hours of Friday and then broke the cashbox taking away over Rs 2 lakh cash.

The thief, with face covered, also reportedly took away some medicines which were costly, the owner stated. The thief carried out the act within less than 10 minutes as per the time displayed at the CCTV of his entering the shop and leaving it.

It may be mentioned here that on late Tuesday night a Pulsor motorbike was reportedly stolen from a bhujiya factory at Phansi Ali locality of Jorhat town.

Thieves also reportedly had taken away two electric motors from water pump-sets from the same factory premises.

Since beginning of this year there has been a rise in incidents of thefts in shops, lifting of vehicles along with incidents of snatchings bags containing cash and also mobile handsets from pedestrians and pillion-riders by motorbike-borne youths in and around the town.

However, in past one month there was no major incident of theft or snatchings reported within the town.

It may be mentioned here that in January this year Jorhat Police had installed 32 CCTV cameras at different areas of the town under a project to assist in curbing crime.
